The
research on Development at CIDE addresses a wide variety of
problems at Macro and Micro levels and represents one of the
most important subjects of research among departments within the
institution. Research focuses in topics as determinants of
economic growth, migration, technological and institutional
innovations, the political economy of policy-making, poverty and
inequality, health and education, household livelihood
strategies, community development and local forms of governance,
cultural norms and institutions, as well as issues related to
gender and ethnicity.
Research
on this area use a variety of approaches from rigorous economic
modeling to the use of advanced econometric techniques. Some
professors within this area have developed a large amount of
field work resulting in important data bases used to test
relevant hypothesis and derive recommendations for government
agencies, development agencies and non-governmental
organizations.
