This area has a long tradition at CIDE's economic department. Research focus mainly on domestic and international issues related to the study of growth, unemployment, inflation, budget deficits and surpluses, exchange rates and stock market fluctuations. The group of researchers in this area keep track of the nation's main economic indicators and provides a forecast for most of them. Such a forecast and economic outlook is widely referred among the academics and the media. The group heavily relies on "microfoundations" in neoclassical microeconomic theory, so there is much interaction between the Macro group and other fields particularly economic theory, public finance and development.
