Project “Beyond the Borders: Regionalism, Migration and Security in North America”
The main objective of this project is the mobility of students and academics, and to create an awareness of quality, the state-of-the-art and social utility through means of a university network of institutions of international renown. The members of the Consortium that make up this network are: from Canada, the University of Alberta and Carleton University; from the United States, the University of Texas at El Paso (UTEP) and Florida International University (FIU); and from Mexico, the Centro de Investigación y Docencia Económicas A.C., (CIDE) and the Universidad Autónoma de Nuevo León (UANL).
One of the key components of this Project is the geographical diversity of its constituents. The Canadian participants are found in two of the most important economic centers in Canada at the extreme west and east of the country. The American participants are located in the southeast region of the United States whereas the Mexican representatives are found in the Distrito Federal and on the northern border of the country. The geographical location of these institutions will contribute to producing a complete and more reliable map of the challenges associated with Regionalism, Migration and Security in North America since the intrinsic experience of each of them arises out of their proximity to these phenomenon.
The Proposal for the study “Beyond the Borders: Regionalism, Migration and Security in North America” responds to the intellectual concern shared by these six different institutions in the North American continent. The impact of this Project is to form a base of well-trained professionals who will disseminate and apply the knowledge they acquire during the exchange. Similarly, the Consortium intends to generate information that will provide social benefits and enable members to become an essential reference on the topics of Immigration, Regionalism and Security. |
