Semblanza Mark Aspinwall es profesor-investigador del CIDE, y miembro del SNI, Nivel III y de la Academia Mexicana de Ciencias. Entre 2016 y 2020 fue Director de la División de Estudios Internacionales. Tiene el doctorado en RI de London School of Economics. Entre otros, ha trabajado en el Congreso de EEUU, la Universidad de Durham (Inglaterra), y la Universidad de Edimburgo, donde fungió como director del Departamento de Politics and International Relations entre 2010 y 2012. Fue “Honorary Professorial Fellow” en la Universidad de Edimburgo entre 2016 y 2019. Su investigación trata de temas de integración regional, estado de derecho, difusión de normas, y sociedad civil. Su libro más reciente fue Side Effects: Mexican governance under NAFTA’s labor and environmental agreements, publicado por Stanford University Press en 2013. Fue traducido y publicado con el título Acuerdos Paralelos por la Editorial CIDE in 2014. En 2004 Manchester University Press publicó su libro Rethinking Britain and Europe. Ha sido profesor visitante en Dartmouth College (2018 y 2020-2021), el ITAM (2008), Harvard University (1999-2000), People’s University en Beijing (1998), el European University Institute (1996). En 2010 ganó el premio “Innovative Teaching Award” en la Universidad de Edimburgo.
